You may very well have Plantar Fasciitis- now more accurately referred to as Plantar Fasciopathy because it is primarily a degenerative overload injury and not and inflammatory condition!

Jaw Dropping Relief- Physiotherapy for TMJ relief!

PHYSIO CAN HELP!

TMJ (TMD) can disrupt your daily life, your social life and leave you severely sleep deprived. If you suffer with jaw pain and stiffness, then you will likely believe me when I say that this little joint, known as the TMJ (tem-poro-man-dib-ular joint) is not only the most complex joint in your body-it also the most used joint in your body! Just take that in for a moment. Then consider which other joint makes over 2000 movements a day and which other joint is made up of two joint types? There isn’t another. The umbrella term TMD (temporomandibular disorders) is used since many other structures also contribute to the pain such as the muscles and ligaments.

Up to 75% of the population has at least one sign or symptom of Temporomandibular dysfunction at any given time. Insane statistic, making this a seriously underdiagnosed and undertreated condition. There are numerous reasons for experiencing pain in this area such as poor posture, microtrauma (dental work), macrotrauma (accident), stress (clenching and grinding), anxiety, depression, teeth mal-alignment, missing teeth, cancers, even chewing things like gum, toffees and hard sweets.

The problem with living with this, is the high risk of the joint degeneration, disc displacement, headaches, neck pain, sinusitis, tinnitus and Eustachian problems. The TMJ is very intimately related with all these structures!

The good news is that TMJ is treatable and Tokai Physio can help you with your TMD. As physiotherapists we are skilled at diagnosing, educating, and effectively treating people who suffer with TMD.

If you have tried everything else – call or email us today for more information and start your journey to healing your jaw pain.

Low Back Pain

From Backache to Action: Tackling Low Back Pain

Have you ever felt that nagging pain in your lower back, the kind that starts as a dull ache and sometimes flares up at the worst moments? You’re not alone—low back pain is one of the most common complaints, affecting people of all ages and backgrounds. While it can seem like just another inconvenience, this discomfort can quickly disrupt your routine and impact your overall quality of life.

Why Does It Hurt? Exploring the Causes

The reasons behind low back pain are as varied as the people who experience it. Sometimes its poor posture, hours spent hunched over a desk, or lifting something the wrong way. Other times, it can be tied to underlying mental and physical health conditions. Pinpointing what’s behind your pain is the first step toward a solution. Pain can be occasional or chronic and recurrent.

Spotting the Signs

Low back pain doesn’t always announce itself with a dramatic flair. It might begin as a mild soreness, become sharper when you move, or bring a stiffness that makes simple tasks feel challenging. These symptoms can limit your mobility and keep you from doing the things you love—whether that’s work, hobbies, or just relaxing.

Taking Charge: Pathways to Relief

Fortunately, there are several ways to effectively manage and reduce low back pain. Gentle stretches, targeted exercises to strengthen your core, and being mindful of your posture can make a world of difference. Starting early and sticking with these habits is essential for easing pain and keeping it from coming back.

Remember, low back pain may be common, but you don’t have to let it stand in your way. With a little attention and consistent action, you can turn discomfort into progress—one step at a time.
